Blog Tour & Review - Vein Of Love by R. Scarlett

Title: Vein of Love
Author: R. Scarlett
Publication Date: August 16th, 2016
Category/Genre: Paranormal Romance

Three centuries ago, Molly Darling’s ancestors signed a contract in blood—daemon blood—to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent’s wishes, sick of their warnings about her “betrothal to a demon.”

Except that she’s very much betrothed, and he’s very much a demon—one who’s only agreed to the nuptials to steal Molly’s ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later.

As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family’s safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she’ll ever have calls for Tensley’s demise.

Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there’s no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss...or to kill.

“What are you doing?” His dark, classic suit was smoothed, ironed to perfection, and if someone had told her he was a demon, she would have laughed. He looked far too good in a suit.

“Uh, I was just waiting for you,” she stammered.

He cocked a brow. “Waiting for me?”

She hummed an answer, too nervous to speak. “Are you, uh, heading out?” She eyed his three-piece suit.

His relaxed posture turned to steel. “A work matter.” Grey eyes scanned her damp hair and she drew in a deep breath at the incredible sensation he made her feel. Stop it. “I don’t have to go right away. The people there”—he visibly swallowed—“aren’t as entertaining as you.”

Her heart soared and quickly plummeted. Do not allow him to suck you in—ugh, don’t use the word ‘suck’. The edge of the scissors’ blade dug into her palm.

With a smile, Tensley stepped closer until he was towering over her petite figure. He eyed her with curiosity. “What are you hiding?”

Molly’s heart thudded, her grip loosening on the scissors from perspiration.

A corner of his lips quirked. “What are you hiding behind your back, Ms. Darling?” He reached a hand out to grasp her wrist.

She panicked and without thinking, sliced through his shirt.

R. Scarlett lives in a small quaint town in Southern Ontario, Canada and has an unhealthy obsession with mythology and romance.

From studying English literature and minoring in History, she loves losing herself in a good book and snuggling up to her Brittany Spaniel. When she's not writing or plotting a delicious novel, she can be found hanging out with friends and family, going on long car rides, exploring small towns, or watching reruns of Sex and the City.

3 “Hot Paranormal Romance” Stars

Well, I am one of those paranormal romance fans who misses and wants more books in this genre, and that’s one of the reasons I decided to read “Vein of Love”. It promised a good paranormal story with a hot alpha male plus steamy scenes. It delivered just that.

The fact that I read it in one sitting proves it.

This is the story of Molly, a young woman who wears sunglasses all day trying to hide her weird-looking eyes. Molly suspects there’s something wrong with her life because aside from her eyes she also experiences inhuman strenght every now and then. The night she turns nineteen, Molly is hunted by a weird-looking woman and saved by two strangers who claim they’re there to protect her and who reveal parts of her life (and the world) she never knew existed.

One of her saviors is Tensley. Alpha-male extraordinaire, Tensley gets under Molly’s skin the moment they meet. It doesn’t help that he tells her he’s to be her husband because of a deal their families signed in blood three hundred years ago. A deal he’s not willing to let go of, especially since he knows how powerful Molly truly is.

Molly is a strong heroine, so she doesn’t simply say “oh, okay, stranger who shows up in my life and dumps all this on me, let’s get married”. Nope. She fights him every step of the way. She wants nothing to do with him, and she has her reasons because Tensley is a jerk most of the time… a hot jerk, but still not the kind of guy you see yourself marrying if you want to keep your sanity.

Despite making sure Molly understands he expects her to hold her end of the deal, Tensley isn’t happy about any of it. He had a life before Molly happened, and he doesn’t want to risk losing control to someone who’s managed to get under his skin so easily. Not with his family history. Tensley belongs to a group of creatures that have no heart – and if he gets emotionally involved with someone, he’ll grow one and that isn’t good at all. If that happens, the ruler of his kind will come after him, kill the person he loves and turn him into an even darker being. So love is out of the question for him.

The stakes, as you can see, are high and these two characters have more than one reason to want to stay away from each other. But as they get into dangerous situations time after time, they have to learn how to work together and rely on each other. Their relationship is tested countless times until they start to slowly trust each other and develop feelings for each other.

I didn’t realize this was the first book in a series, so I sort of expected the romance to go full circle here, which didn’t happen. If you like love-and-hate relationships, though, you’ll have plenty of that in this book. That's one of the parts I liked the most.

There were a few times Molly irritated me with her inability to see the bigger picture, but I guess she was trying to be a strong woman and not let other people dictate her life, which is something I appreciate. Tensley is a super alpha male, so he does questionable things and treats Molly in ways that will raise an eyebrow here and then. He’s a man ruled by the fear that he’ll become his brother, so some of his actions are explained by that fear, others…not so much.

Two of the side characters really caught my attention – September and Illya, and I wish I’d seen more of them. They had great chemistry and September was one of those characters people usually hate or love. Well, I loved her.

Overall, this was an entertaining read, and if you’re a fan of sexy paranormal romance with alpha males you’ll probably enjoy this one.
