3.5 “Cute & Short Airport Romance” Stars
First of all, let me start by saying how much I like this cover and the title. Together they definitely do their job: call readers to pick up the book and give it a chance.
“Kisses on a Paper Airplane” is the short story of Hannah Evans, a drama student who’s been living in England for the past few months and is now returning home after her mother surprises her by announcing she’s getting married. Needless to say, Hannah isn’t too thrilled about that idea, but she decides to be there for her mother. She flies home to meet the man who’s marrying her mom only months after meeting her.
Her soon-to-be stepfather seems to want to make a good impression because he buys Hannah first class tickets for her international flight. Either that or he’s trying to buy her affection – I couldn’t tell at first, and neither could Hannah, because she didn't know the guy.
While in first class lounge, Hannah meets the boy. At first, she doesn’t realize the cute and funny boy who comes to talk to her is pop star Theo Callahan. Either way, she’s hypnotized by him at first sight
Theo seems to be everything Hannah wants in the boy who’ll finally give
her the first kiss she’s been dreaming of. Yep, Hannah has never kissed anyone
because she wanted it to be special. She didn’t want it to be with just any
guy, but one who mattered. Cute, huh?
So now all Hannah has to do is make sure by the end of the trip she gets kissed
for the first time in her life by Theo.
Like I said, cute and short.
I’ve always liked stories about celebrities falling in love with
“normal” people. While we didn’t have much time to
get to know Hannah and Theo, the fact that we had alternating POVs helped us
get a better sense of who these characters were and what they felt. Sure I wished
the author had chosen to develop them fully, which would require a lot more
pages and chapters, but I guess that wouldn’t work with the concept – an airport
romance.
While Hannah sounded a bit young for her age, Theo felt like a more
mature character. Maybe that’s a result of his experiences as someone who has
seen a lot of the world while touring.
The romance was sweet and resulted in a happy ending, which is what I
expected from it.
Overall, “Kisses on a Paper Airplane” is a quick and fun read.
